Changes Don’t Happen Overnight

How many times have you tried to do an overhaul in your life?  Whether it be your health, your home, your schedule….  This time I’m going all in and I’m going to do it.  For real!

But change isn’t that easy.  We do the things we do because it works for us –  one way or the other.  Even if you “think” it doesn’t work for you…

There is a programming that happens within all of us.  After doing repetition for a period of time, things become normalized in our lives.  It could be drinking, eating, yelling, social media or television binging.   Every day at the same time it takes place.  That let down or that numbing out.  Or our reactions to our kids – the yelling and screaming.

Change IS doable – if you want it.  And you must want it bad enough to ride out the pressure of the past and the pressure of the present.  You must have enough courage to feel uncomfortable just for a bit.  My recent change is my health.  I have been on so many diets I could write a book.  Best and the worst – done them all.  But the one thing I wasn’t doing was figuring out what I was numbing out.  What was I trying to get escape from?  Why wasn’t I willing to sit with and figure out what was going on?  When I finally learned how to do this I figured it out.  Now, I’m down 20 pounds.  Slow and easy.  If weight isn’t your thing – replace your thing………   Why am I choosing to numb out my feelings (exhaustion, anxiety, overwhelm,) with (food, alcohol, work, social media)?

I find that when we trick ourselves into change it’s not such a shock. Now, I understand there are times that call for a cold turkey quit.  But most change isn’t so pertinent or else you would have changed by now.  So, for a day try something small that shifts you toward your goal.  It doesn’t have to be a killer workout or a no carb day.  It could be having just one beer instead of two.  It could be 30 min social media instead of hours.  Just a small enough shift to give yourself hope and create a new pattern for your future and where you want to go.

One other thing.  Don’t be in such a hurry to make a change that you don’t set up the foundation for your new life.  Make it doable.  Make it slightly-easy.  Make it worthwhile!

If you would like help identifying patterns that’s what I do! Come work with me!
