FEELINGS …. SCHMEELINGS!!

 

Most people don’t want to talk about feelings.

It’s dumb

It’s a load of crap

I’m better than that

Or

It makes me feel uncomfortable

It makes me weak

It makes me vulnerable

 

But the thing is EVERYTHING WE DO IS BECAUSE OF HOW IT MAKES US FEEL!

You buy the car because of how it makes you feel.

You buy the jewelry because of how it makes you feel.

You gamble because of how it makes you feel.

You shop because of how it makes you feel.

You drink because of how it makes you feel.

You eat because of how it makes you feel.

You fight because of how it makes you feel.

You love because of how it makes you feel.

You want justice because of how it makes you feel.

You want to win because of how it makes you feel.

 

Everything we do (our actions)  is because of how it makes us feel.  This is good news because once you realize this, you can step outside of yourself and see if the choices you are making will benefit you long term.  You see our “in the moment feelings” drive our actions.  So what is it long term that you want?  What do you see for yourself? Are these feelings supporting your goals?  If you need to complete a project and your driving feeling is overwhelm and exhaustion it’s going to be more difficult to complete that project than if you come from a place of confidence or determination.  It requires less energy.

So work backward from your goal – whatever it is.  What is the feeling that you need to get there?  Stir up those feelings (by using supporting thoughts) and see how quickly things start to shift for you.

Feelings are a pretty easy concept.  The part that takes more work is where I come in.  Most people don’t pay attention to thoughts.  No one has ever taught us how to use our brain.  The crazy thing is, it is a supercomputer and the biggest indicator of whether or not we are going to succeed or not, and no one teaches us that we get to choose how to use it!  Discovering the link between what you are thinking and how that makes you feel doesn’t seem too complicated.  At first – anyway.  But we are all tangled in thought webs because of our past, things we are fed on social media, things we learned as children, things we tell ourselves… that’s where it can get a bit messy.
